The Tunnel Boring Machine, also called TBM for short, is used in the tunnel project, such as subways, railways, highways, municipal program and so on, which is known as the “pangolin” in the tunnel industry. It can reinforce the tunnel wall while digging at the same time.

According to the induction, most of our TBM is import from other countries, which usually used the three-phase induction motors. To broke the monopolization of foreign countries and improve the performance of the TBM, China company has abandoned the technology of three-phase induction motors, instead, they combined the TBM with the permanent magnet  innovatively. It is said by the technicians that the diameter of the permanent magnetic TBM is 6m, and the total power is 1056kw. Compared with the traditional one, the efficiency of the new type can improve about 10 percent, and save more than 100 degree electric each day, which is about more than 1000 yuan. In general, the permanent magnetic TBM can achieve the situation of several motors work at the same time, and the permanent motor magnets are more accordance with actual status of the TBM. Besides, with the advantages of light weight, small size, the permanent magnetic motor is easier to maintain.

At present, the new permanent magnetic TBM has worked successfully for the first time. After the technology of permanent magnetic motor has applied for high-speed rails, wind electricity, air conditioning, new energy vehicles and other areas, it opened up the area of TBM successfully for the first time in the world.
