China Rare Earth Magnet Limited manufactures NdFeB neodymium magnets which can be used in robot
Children or adults will swallow something stranger things sometimes, such as LeGo, button or battery. According to the statistics, there are more than 3500 batteries that are swallowed every in America, and these batteries will burning the stomach and esophageal, so the doctor has to make surgical operation immediately to avoid leak and death.
However, the scientists of MIT and NYU had studied edible robot successfully with the degradable biolefin and a permanent magnet , named origami robot. The permanent magnet is a neodymium magnet, and the biolefin may be intestine of pig or the material made by vegetable. The robot is only 1 centimeter, and the weight is just 0.33 gram. It can be packed in a capsule. When being heated, the robot will shrink in the capsule, so that the patient easy to swallow and then go through the belly smoothly. Once the capsule being swallowed and dissolved, the robot will expand, and be controlled by the neodymium NdFeB magnets that out of the body. The robot can slide in the body and close to the battery gradually. And then pick up the battery by the permanent magnet. In the end, it can pump out of the body as usual. Additionally, the director of MIT AI lab said that this kind of robot also can repair the wound in our body and deliver the medicine to the body.
The director said they will try their best to study more automatic medical technology to ensure more safe and continuous medical effect. However, there will be a period of time to make the technology practical, before that, they should make a series of experiment.
