Commonly, magnetic coupling  includes several parts: outer rotor, inner rotor, isolating sleeve, and bearing system. Among them, the isolating sleeve and bearing system are used for magnetic transmission. And there are permanent magnets on the rotors in the form of N-S crossing. Only if aligning the magnets, the outer and inner rotor will couple automatically.

There are main factors for the quality of permanent magnetic coupling as below.

Materials 
Generally, the metal materials always include austenitic stainless less, titanium alloy, hastelloy, etc. For example, with the centrifugal pump in 1900rmp, the eddy current of stainless steel coupling will lose 15% to 20%, while hastelloy can decrease the lost with high electrical resistivity, which is rather expensive in price nevertheless. On the contrast, the non-metallic materials like engineering plastics PEEK and ceramic can even avoid any lost of eddy. However, with high cost and poor impact-resistance, these materials can’t be used widely either.

Magnets 
When the working temperature ≤80℃, rotating speed ≤1000rpm, and the pressure ≤0.5MPa, the neodymium magnet   is the best choice; while the working temperature up to 200℃, it is better to use SmCo permanent magnet. And in that condition, the larger turning radius can be a reference to reduce the arm length of outer rotor accordingly, so as to minimize magnets usage. 

Cooling methods
If the working environment is high temperature, high pressure and high rotating speed, such as 300℃, 3000rpm and 5MPa, it is necessary to consider cooling methods. Usually, there are two ways of cooling: forced air cooling and water cooling.
