Latest Study Found that Permanent Magnets can Revive Memories

Generally, when someone told you a phone number, you can dial accordingly. But would you still remember these numbers after ten minutes or even an hour? Although we can’t figure out yet what kind of message our brain will store, a latest research made by University of Wisconsin-Madison might found something special. It pointed out that permanent magnets   may revive memories in the brain.

We always have working memory in our brain, which means that we can keep some important information in the brain for a short moment. And as the previous studies, we only can have these memories through sustained brain activity. However, the new research shows that the brain will conceal the insignificant information out of inspection by monitoring tools.

For the study, a series of experiments were carried out. People were asked to remember two items that represents different types of information like words, pictures, and move directions. At first, the researchers didn’t talk about these words, so the relevant electrical activity and blood flow in the brain disappeared. But then, the activity and flow came back when they were told that some questions about these items will be asked. It is proved that the memory is not gone, we just can’t found it.

And with permanent magnets, these memories can be aroused again. This great discovery may help us to control our minds, thus it may contribute to the treatment of some mental illness, like schizophrenia or depression. Many mental illnesses are relevant with the abnormal thinking ability. For example, the depressed may immerse in a gloomy mood all the time; and the schizoid may have hallucination. And the people with normal thinking ability will ignore these unhealthy signals in our brain automatically. Therefore, the current study may help us to have a better understand on how to control our minds.

A professor of the research team said that we may control our attention, choose what we should think about, and manage some serious problems that caused by a lack of control with the help of permanent magnet   in the future.
