China Motor Company successfully developed Hong Kong trams permanent magnet traction system
Recently, China's motor company developed permanent magnets traction system for Hong Kong trams approved by Beijing Jiaotong University, Southwest Jiaotong University and China trolley car experts and relevant units and Hong Kong Trams Company. It is concluded that the system design achieved the advanced level of domestic electricity transmission system, ready for loading conditions.

The permanent magnet traction system applied in the field of rail cars in the city is still vacant.
Hong Kong trams permanent magnet electric drive system is China Motor company's another new product development in the field of rail cars after mastering the permanent magnetic control technology such as electric vehicles, Marine propulsion systems and so on. At present, the system has completed the prototype test, type test, ground joint debugging and through experts' review, will proceed with loading operation test.
It is introduced that permanent magnet motor is featured in small volume, light weight and high efficiency. Under the same operating conditions, the PM traction system save energy more than 20% compared with asynchronous traction system, and ascend along with the ascension of the regenerative braking performance. To calculate Hong Kong trams run ten hours a day, about 120 kilometers, the annual power consumption for using asynchronous traction system is 50000 degrees, while the permanent magnetic assembly traction system can save powder 9000 degrees at least each year.
